Narrow pixel pitch digital signage projects were one of the fastest-growing use cases, as LED video display shipments grew 17.7% year on year in the second quarter of 2022.

Global shipments of LED video displays grew quickly in the second quarter of 2022, up 17.7% year on year outside of China, albeit the figure was only 4.7% within China.

And small pixel pitch products for corporate signage have been one of the fastest growing sectors in the pro-AV industry, with brands including Absen, Samsung, Unilumin, Leyard, and LG expanding their market.

That's according to a research summary posted on social media by Tay Taehoon Kim, research and analysis associate director for digital signage, including LED video displays at Omdia.

The growth came amid a modest improvement in transportation delays affecting components and LED modules, in labour shortages and installation issues. Covid-19 restrictions have also largely been lifted worldwide, with China again the exception.

Kim said there had been an increase in demand for projects that have been delayed for two years, especially for outdoor displays in retail and outdoor sports applications. Brands including Daktronics, Lighthouse, Watchfire, and Sansi North America (SNA) Displays helped support and sustain shipments in the second quarter of 2022, especially in North America and Western Europe.

In 2Q22, China took the largest share of shipments, followed by North America and Western Europe with 13.6% and 11.0%, respectively. But Latin America & the Caribbean, Middle East & Africa, and Asia & Oceania grew comparatively fast, up by 104.8%, 49.2%, and 44.0% year on year, respectively.
